Sodium Hydroxide Micropearls

Epoxy Oilserv Nigeria is the distributor of food-grade chemicals in Nigeria, we have a large stock of Sodium Hydroxide micro-pearls in our stock

Sodium Hydroxide has a chemical formula as (NaOH) is commonly known as Caustic Soda or Lye with a molecular weight of 39.9971 g/ mol. It comes in a white solid when it is at its pure state, it can also be transformed into pellets, flakes, granules, and also 50% saturated solution. It readily absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere due to its deliquescent nature, so, therefore, it should be stored in an airtight container, so it doesn’t absorb moisture from the air. It is very soluble in water which liberates substantial heat, which may be sufficient to ignite combustible materials.

This Caustic soda is widely used in various industries, because its a strong chemical base, it is preferred in the manufacture of pulp and paper, drinking water, textiles and also detergents. It is also used in processing cotton fabric, laundering, and bleaching, metal cleaning, and processing, oxide coating, and electroplating. Sodium hydroxide is mostly present in liquid drain openers.

Uses of Sodium Hydroxide Micropearls

Chemistry Laboratories

Sodium hydroxide is often used in analytical chemistry; Its solutions are often used to measure the concentration of acids by titration. Since sodium hydroxide is not a primary standard, solutions must first be standardized by titration against another standard such as KHP(Potassium Hydrogen Phthalate). Burettes exposed to sodium hydroxide should be rinsed out immediately after use, to avoid it from “freezing” of the stopcock.

Aluminum ore processing

Sodium hydroxide is used to extract alumina from naturally occurring minerals. Alumina is used widely to make aluminum and a variety of products including kitchen utensils, foil, beer kegs, cans, and airplane parts. It is also used in building and construction, aluminum is used in materials that enable building facades and window frames.

Water Treatment

Municipal water treatment facilities use sodium hydroxide to control water acidity and to help remove heavy metals that have been deposited in the water. Sodium hydroxide is also used to produce sodium hypochlorite, a water disinfectant.

Other Uses of Sodium hydroxide are;

Acid neutralization Food and Beverage Sanitation Chemicals Plasticizers
Adhesives and sealant chemicals Fuels and fuel additives Plating agents and surface treating agents
Adsorbents and absorbents Functional fluids (closed systems) Primarily Municipal and Industrial wastewater treatment
Agricultural chemicals (non-pesticidal) Intermediates Process regulators
Bleaching agents Ion exchange agents Processing aids, not otherwise listed
Corrosion inhibitors and anti-scaling agents Lubricants and lubricant additives Processing aids, specific to petroleum production
Defoamer Not specified by the customer Solids separation agents
Dyes Oxidizing/reducing agents Solvents (for cleaning and degreasing)
Finishing agents Paint additives and coating additives not described by other categories Solvents (which become part of product formulation or mixture)
Flame retardants Pigments Surface active agents

Safety Measures

Safety measures need to be observed when handling a chemical such as sodium hydroxide. Wear the appropriate protective wears, including gloves and eye google.

Sodium Hydroxide is exothermic in nature, the heat evolved may ignite flammables or heat burn. When in contact with your skin it may lead to skin burn, the injury which could become permanent. Avoid contact with the eye, to avoid eye damage or eye irritation. When inhaled it can cause damage to your respiratory organs.

NOTE; Before use, ensure you go through the safety data sheet please read here

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

[sc_fs_multi_faq headline-0=”h2″ question-0=”What is the other name for Sodium hydroxide” answer-0=”Sodium hydroxide is very corrosive. It is generally used as a solid or a 50% solution. Other common names include caustic soda and lye. Sodium hydroxide is used to manufacture soaps, rayon, paper, explosives, dyestuffs, and petroleum products” image-0=”” headline-1=”h2″ question-1=”Can sodium Hydroxide Kill you?” answer-1=”There are tons of sodium ions everywhere: there’s almost 1 gram per liter of sweat, and seawater is 1.08% sodium ions by mass. We have lots of sodium ions in our bodies, and it’s essential for the way our body functions. If you don’t have a high enough concentration of sodium ions in your blood, you end up with hyponatremia, which can kill you (the name comes from natrium, the Latin name for sodium). This is the reason that water in large doses is toxic. It’s really the hydroxide ions that are the cause of the trouble” image-1=”” headline-2=”h2″ question-2=”Is Sodium hydroxide safe to eat?” answer-2=”Sodium Hydroxide also is known as lye or caustic soda is a strong alkaline compound that is used for preparing various foodstuffs. Its uses include the following. 1. Hominy and Nixtamal are dried maize (corn) kernels reconstituted by soaking in lye-water. These expand considerably in size and may be further processed by frying to make corn nuts or by drying and grinding to make grits. 2. German pretzels are poached in cold sodium hydroxide solution before baking, which contributes to their unique crust. 3. Black olives result from normal (green) olives being subjected to a lye-based chemical bath. 4. Most yellow-colored Chinese noodles are made with lye-water but are commonly mistaken for containing egg. WARNING: SODIUM HYDROXIDE IS CAUSTIC AND MUST BE HANDLED WITH EXTREME CARE. IT CAN CAUSE SEVERE BURNS TO EXPOSED FLESH AND SHOULD NEVER BE INGESTED” image-2=”” count=”3″ html=”true” css_class=””]
