What Are Epoxy Resin and Hardeners?Epoxy Resins are well-balanced industrial materials, used for a wide variety of applications. Epoxy resins are one-part or two-part industrial materials that have respective advantages and can be exploited in a wide variety of industries offering excellent mechanical strength, heat resistance, and chemical resistance.
Epoxy resins are reactive intermediates that, before they can be useful products, must be “cured” or cross-linked by polymerization into a three-dimensional infusible network with co-reactants (curing agents). Cross-linking of the resin can occur through the epoxide or hydroxyl groups, and proceeds basically by only two types of curing mechanisms: direct coupling of the resin molecules by a catalytic homopolymerization, or coupling through a reactive intermediate. Reactions used to cure low molecular weight epoxy resins occur with the epoxide ring
Some of the benefits of Epoxy Resins
One part Epoxy Resin.
One part Epoxy resin is cured by the application of heat, hence the curing agent in this type of resin is just heated, it has various advantages, one is that it is one part and hence can easily be managed, low probability of damaging our skin, and sure does have excellent heat resistance. One of the disadvantages of one part epoxy resin is that it must need heat for curing, if the film applied is thick then it will be difficult to cure, there is also the probability of being in an uncured state when used in minute resistance.
We are always making efforts to offer products that will best suit your design requirements.
Two-Part Epoxy Resin.
Epoxy resin and hardener are known as two-part epoxy resin, there are the reason and the other part the hardener in Epoxy Oilserv we call it the catalyst, curing is started by mixing the main agent with the curing agent (catalyst)
Curing of two-part epoxy resins
Characteristics of two-part epoxy resins
The characteristic of two-part epoxy resin is that it cures at room temperature without heating, this appears to be one of the biggest advantages, it also has excellent chemical resistance and diaelectricity. some of the disadvantages of the two-part epoxy resin are that it is burdensome measuring and blending two agents, there is the probability of skin irritation due to the hardener and it finally it has a short working time, hence during application one has to be very careful
Points for selecting two-part epoxy resins
Base agent | Consider color and viscosity. |
---|---|
Hardener | Curing time/temperature, strength, flexibility, etc. |
