Nigeria LNG To Supply One Million Tonnes Of LNG To Galp

Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) has signed a deal with Galp Trading SA for the supply of one million tonnes of LNG per year, the African producer said in a statement on Wednesday as reported by REUTERS.

The volumes will be supplied on a delivered ex-ship basis for 10 years from Trains 1, 2 and 3 of a six-train NLNG production facility on Bonny Island.

The transaction follows a similar deal with Italy’s Eni and France’s Total announced last month and a 0.5 million tonnes per year deal with commodity trader Vitol signed in December.

NLNG has been remarketing some volumes from its existing trains as some contracts approach expiry.

Epoxy Floor Coating for Food and Beverage Industry

The floor of a food and beverage industry is typically exposed to all sorts of food byproducts, including fats, hot oils, blood, sugar solutions, and natural food acids. Some of these substances can cause serious damage to concrete because of their corrosive nature. In addition, these contaminants can infiltrate uncoated concrete, resulting in uncontrolled growth of bacteria, ultimately degrading the processed food’s purity.

Consequently, coatings selected for application to food and beverage processing facility floors must be durable enough and thick enough to create a protective barrier that prevents contaminants from permeating the concrete substrate and ensures a hygienic surface.

Traffic The volume and type of traffic is another important criterion in selecting a floor coating for a food processing facility. Personnel safety and potential liability issues compel food processing plant managers to ensure skid-resistant floors by using textured or grit surfaces. The degree of texture is typically determined by the conditions of operation, frequency of cleaning and maintenance, and presence of oils, greases and other potentially slippery substances.

A high-medium grade of texture for food processing makes sense since these environments are often “wet” either from cleaning agents or from the inherent exposure to oils and grease. Where high impact and heavy loads are part of the traffic pattern, a flexible membrane may be applied beneath the floor coating.

Cleaning Floors in food facilities must be thoroughly cleaned regularly, often several times daily, to keep the food processing operation pure and up to government standards. Consequently, food processing facility floor coatings must be durable enough to handle vigorous cleaning procedures, which typically include very hot water, steam, and aggressive cleaning chemicals. It is clear that only high-performance floor coatings will withstand this kind of punishing maintenance.

On a typical day in a food processing facility, floors are exposed to a variety of process chemicals as well as corrosive cleaning chemicals, primarily detergents. If a floor is subjected to only minor chemical contact, a thin film coating may suffice; however, if a floor is exposed to the variety of moisture, temperature, and chemical conditions typically found in a food processing area, it is essential that the plant manager select a thicker, more durable floor coating that can offer sufficient protection to meet those conditions.

In addition to the corrosive nature of the cleaning chemicals, the very hot, high-pressure steam used in daily cleanings can take its toll on a food processing facility floor. The pressure alone is often capable of removing a standard coating, much like what happens when a deteriorating concrete driveway is pressure-washed. Because the cleaning process is performed repeatedly and at very high temperatures, it is crucial that the coating be thick and durable.

Application Conditions

Yet another factor in selecting epoxy flooring for food and beverage industry involves application conditions. While these issues are typically not relevant for installation of floors and coatings in new facilities, they are indeed relevant when updating an existing facility.

One way to prevent messes and protect the floor of a food grade industry is by installing a certain type of floor coating. Many food processing industries rely on epoxy floor coating to improve the sanitary standards of their building, and ultimately, their product.

Eni Begins Oil Production From Agogo Field Offshore Angola

Italian oil and gas company Eni has started oil production from its operated Agogo field, located offshore Angola, only nine months after its discovery, as reported by Offshore Energy Today.

Eni announced “a major oil discovery” in Block 15/06, in the Agogo exploration prospect, in Angola’s deep water in March 2019. Eni operates two FPSOs in Block 15/06, the N’Goma in West Hub and Olombendo in East Hub.

The Agogo-1 NFW well, which has led to the discovery, is located approximately 180 kilometers off the coast and about 20 kilometers west from the N’Goma FPSO. The well was drilled by the Poseidon drillship in a water depth of 1636 meters and reached a total depth of 4450 meters.

According to Angola’s National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels’ statement on Thursday, at the moment, the field is producing around 10,000 barrels of oil per day and is projected to reach 20,000 per day in the coming months.

Also recall that Italian oil major Eni and France’s Total were among the successful bidders for rights to develop three offshore blocks in Angola out of 10 auctioned late last year.

The agency said that the achievement was a result of the synergies developed with the N’Goma FPSO. The field is producing as a subsea tie-back to the FPSO.

It is estimated that the field contains 650 million barrels of light oil in place with further upside, confirmed by the Agogo-2, the first appraisal well of the Agogo discovery drilled in July 2019.

The Block 15/06 Joint Venture is composed of Eni (operator, with a 36.8421% stake), Sonangol P&P (36.8421%), and SSI Fifteen Limited (26.3158%).

In a separate statement on Friday, Eni said that the record time set for the field to become operational, nine months after its discovery last March, confirmed its successful endorsement of the fast track model in the development of its discoveries, a strategy based on operational synergies with already existing infrastructure that maximizes projects value.

OILFIELD DRILLING CHEMICALS

Oilfield drilling is a process of boring hole into to the earth crust for natural gas and oil. To do this, a long bit attached to a “drilling string” is used. The bit varies in diameter from five to 50 inches. After each section is drilled, a steel pipe slightly smaller than the hole diameter is dropped in and often cement is used to fill the gap.This “casing” with cement is used to give some structural integrity to the hole and to isolated high-pressure areas of rock that can explode if allowed to release.

The drilling process can be liken to using a power drill on a piece of wood. The most major difference is that the he hole is filled with “mud” which is often called “drilling mud”. Drilling mud is a mixture of fluids, solids and, chemicals  that lubricate the bit, whose function is to cut away from the drill face, provide a hydrostatic head that counters the pressure of gas or oil, and provide a physical and chemical means of stabilizing and protecting the rock formation that is being drilled.

Drilling muds can be used in a very wide variety of rock formations and conditions, their specific composition varies from site to site, and also with different depths in the same well. Since offshore oil and gas exploration began, many different types of substances have been, and are being, used in the formulation and modification of drilling muds which includes emulsifiers, lubricants, wetting agents, corrosion inhibitors, surfactants, detergent, caustic soda, salts, and organic polymers, (https://vaporblash.com/2019/12/11/oilfield-drilling-fluids-chemicals-market-2019-2026-forecast-oil-and-gas-shale-gas/ ) drilling muds also consist of gelling and deflocculating agents (bentonite clays) filtration control agents, pH and ion-control substances, barites, biocides, lubricants, defoaming agents, and trace elements of heavy metals (such as arsenic, barium, chromium, cadmium, lead, and mercury) which can be retained in the oilfield environment .

Functions of some of the chemicals listed;

  • Clay and stabilizer listed above, reacts with the wells or boreholes water phase of the drilling fluid to improve its stickiness, induce sloughing and increasing its swelling capacity. The stabilizer is designed in a way that it always adheres to the wall surfaces of boreholes and drill cuttings. With this, encapsulation process can effectively seal surfaces and prevent the reactions between the surfaces and the fluid to prevent  undue consequences such as swelling, sticking and sloughing. The aim of this is supposed to boost the stability of the borehole.Eg organophilic clay, bentonite etc.
  • Thinners are also referred to as deflocculants. They are thinning agents used to reduce the extent of viscosity or preventing flocculation. Thinners are often incorrectly referred to as dispersants. However, a thinner tend to come in form of low-molecular weight anionic polymer that functions to neutralize the positive charges accumulated on the clay edges. Good examples of thinners include lignosulfates, polyphosphates etc.
  • Drilling polymers has high molecular weight fluid with the ability to control the well’s fluid loss and to increase the viscosity. There are over four variants of this chemical which can include polyacrylate, Snergistic polymer, polyglycol, XCD polymer or partly hydrolyzed polyacrylamide.
