(COPL) raises capital for its Nigerian offshore block development

(COPL) raises capital for its Nigerian offshore block development

Canadian Overseas Petroleum Limited (COPL) has said it is in advanced talks with financiers and suppliers of an early production system for its Nigerian offshore block development. It is also raising working capital via a share placing.

COPL’s main asset is OPL 226 offshore block located approximately 50 km offshore the central delta region of Nigeria. COPL expects to bring three to four appraisal wells at OPL 226 onto production at a forecast rate of 6-10,000 bpd per well by the end of 2020.

Also, COPL on Tuesday announced the completion of placing by Shard Capital Partners LLP to raise gross proceeds of £497,000, pursuant to which the Company will issue 497,000,000 new common shares at a price of 0.1 pence per Placing Share.

“The Company intends to use the net proceeds of the Placing to fund its on-going general and administrative expenses thereby allowing it to progress development and financing plans underway for the OPL 226 project,” COPL said.

To remind, the company last month said it had signed a non-binding letter of intent with an offshore drilling contractor for a new build high spec jack-up drilling rig.

COPL plans to use the rig for an appraisal drilling program over the NOA 1 discovery made by a previous operator in 2001.

COPL has said it expects to drill the first appraisal well at OPL 226 by late 2019, subject to regulatory approvals, and place it in production through an Extended Well Test (“EWT”) utilizing an Early Production System (“EPS”).

“This will be followed by the drilling of two to three additional similar wells on the prolific NOA Structure – all set to come on-stream by the end of 2020. This phase of the project would precede a full field development, after OML conversion offering significantly higher production levels. A full summary of the OPL 226 program was outlined in a Company announcement dated January 28, 2019,” COPL said.

As per COPL’s statement, completion of this phase of the program will trigger conditional project financing arranged by ShoreCan for up to US$50 million for OPL 226 from Trafigura and the Mauritius Commercial Bank.

The project finance is contingent on a production test delivering 6,000 bpd for 21 days and a minimum of US$20 million capital investment by ShoreCan.

“The Company is currently in advanced discussions with several global service providers regarding the provision of services for the early production scheme and concurrently in discussions with groups for the provision of project financing,” COPL said.

Arthur Millholland, President and CEO, said: “This placing will help ensure the company is able to realize the significant potential with OPL 226. As it is limited to only 20% of our current market capitalization, we expect to announce additional financing measures in the coming weeks. Concurrently we are focused on concluding the placement of the OPL 226 Performance Bond by our Nigerian affiliate and progressing the acceptance of the jack-up drilling rig currently under a non-binding letter of intent. As we have previously indicated, once the Performance Bond is in place we can commence operations in earnest.”

As for the performance bond in question, during the fourth quarter, the NNPC granted COSL conditional approval of a 24-month extension for the Phase-1 PSC at OPL 226 – until October 2020 – subject to certain conditions including the submission of a Performance Bond of US$7 million.

COPL has previously said that its Nigerian Affiliate had accepted a term sheet from a “recognized Nigerian Bank” for the provision of a $7 million Performance Bond “which will meet the principal condition of the term extension of Phase 1 of the OPL 226 PSC”

demineralized, deionized and distilled water in Nigeria

Are you thinking of buying quality demineralized, Deionized and distilled water in Nigeria? look no further, you can buy Epoxy Oilserv Nigeria Limited partnered with GZ Industrial Supplies to sell products in their industrial supplies online shop also known as (AKA) GZ INDUSTRIAL MEGASTORE, We are capable of meeting your treated water requirements.

Product quality Assurance;

Epoxy Oilserv Nigeria limited is the industry-leading producer of demineralized deionized, and distilled water for industrial applications in Nigeria, Our Ultra-modern plant is capable of producing 15,000 liters of treated water per hour and managed by the industry-leading team. Quality is our watchword, all our processes and procedures are in direct compliance to international standards.

We have warehouses for product storage across major cities within the country with well-oragnized distribution channels to get our products to clients. Our products are used for several industrial applications and listed below are some of the industrial applications for our popular brand EPOCHEM demineralized, deionized and distilled water.

Demineralized, deionized, and distilled water share one thing in common in that they are all types of purified water, meaning that they have undergone some treatment process to remove impurities and make the treated water suitable for given industrial applications. While they are of similarly high quality, the distinction between the three lies in their treatment process, production and applications.

Applications of demineralized, deionised and distilled water

Demineralised wateris specially purified water that is completely free or had most of its mineral removed. Demineralisation is essentially removing all the minerals that can be found in natural water. This process is usually done when the water will be used for chemical processes and the minerals present may interfere with the other chemicals. All chemist and beauty products have to be made with demineralised water for this reason.

Deionized water is a type of water where all the ions are completely removed, and it has no charge. It is free from all charged atoms or molecules (ions). All the cations and anions present as contaminants in the water has been removed thereby increasing the ionic purity and electrical resistance of the water. Ion exchange resins are used to exchange non-desirable cations and anions with hydrogen and hydroxyl respectively forming pure water (H20), which is not an ion. Deionization does not remove molecular species (e.g. sugar) or uncharged organic particles (most bacteria, viruses).

Deionized water can be created by taking conventional water and letting it exposed to electrically charged resins that will bind and attract to salts, and remove them from the water. The purity of deionized water depends on the source water. Deionized water is used when a soft solvent is needed.  Other applications of demineralised and deionized water are:

  • High pressure boiler feed
  • Laser cutting
  • Stream irons and any other stream applications
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Industrial uses for engineering and scientific purposes
  • Can be used by computer chip manufacturers and other microelectronics
  • Automotive uses such as lead acid batteries and cooling systems
  • Aquariums
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Cooling applications where it is important to avoid depositing minerals
  • Many chemistry experiment involving ionic compounds
  • Washing glassware especially the final rinse
  • Solvent preparation
  • Deionized water is not used in situations involving long term contact with metals
  • Calibration standards.

Distilled wateris a type of water that is purified using distillation. The source water for distillation could be tap water, but spring water is used most often. Usually, the water is boiled and the steam is collected and condensed toyield distilled water.

Most minerals and certain other impurities are left behind, but the purity of the source water is important because some impurities (e.g., volatile organics, mercury) will vaporize along with the water. Distillation removes salts and particulates.

Applications of distilled water:

  • Distilled water is the best water to use in canning fruits and vegetables. Aside from the fact that it keeps fruits and vegetables in top shape by maintaining their colour and taste. It also prevents build up and cloudiness that usually happens when any other water is used.
  • Distilled water is perfect for making soaps because it has no chemicals that might only decrease the effectiveness of the soap.
  • Distilled water is safe to use in cooling down engines and cleaning since it is free of compounds.
  • Cosmetic companies use distilled water in their products to ensure that there are no unwanted contaminants within them.
  • Solvent to prepare a solution-In order to achieve an accurate result in experiments, distilled water is often used as it does not contain any minerals or contaminants that may affect the experiment outcome.
  • Analytical blank
  • Calibration standard and equipment sterilization.

Distilled water is preferable when cleaning medical tools which are used for medical procedures, performed on patients because it does not contain minerals that can cause spotting.

Demineralized water, distilled and deionized water are very essential in several industries as listed above.  You can shop online GZ INDUSTRIAL SUPPLIES for all your industrial materials, tools etc and feel free to connect with us on www.epoxyoil.com  for more details.

NNPC Champions Female Engineers in Nigeria

February 27, 2019 by Roselyn Nwachukwu

NNPC tower

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for its exemplary role in the advocacy of science and engineering-based education for the girl child through support for the activities of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN).

Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu, President Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), stated this Thursday in Abuja while receiving NNPC’s Management led by the corporation’s Group Managing Director, Engr. Maikanti Baru, to the Headquarters of the society.

A release by NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, said the NSE President disclosed that by identifying with APWEN in its quest to engender a sound foundation for female engineering professionals in the country, the corporation was taking a step that would invariably illuminate the nation’s engineering and technological landscape a few years from now.

Engr. Mokuolu particularly commended the NNPC GMD whom he described as a worthy first class ambassador of the engineering profession, saying Baru was not just a first class scholar but also a worthy administrator.

Responding, the NNPC GMD said the visit was part of the corporation’s strategic stakeholder engagement with professional bodies with which the corporation shares common goals of championing Nigeria’s march towards strengthening professionalism, capacity development, local content and industrialization.

He noted that the NSE has over the years, continued to play a pivotal role in transforming engineering profession in Nigeria.

The NNPC GMD also said the corporation would continue to identify with NSE’s resolve to groom professional engineers as well as promote and entrench engineering excellence in the country.

He explained that this role has become crucial due to the increasing need for sustainable and secured energy mix that would support the nation’s quest for economic prosperity and growth.

“It gladdens my heart to see that NSE has remained at the forefront of providing the right direction and the necessary professional support towards catalyzing sustainable energy growth in Nigeria since 1958”, he said.

Dr. Baru tasked the NSE to find better ways of collaboration with engineering professionals within the Oil and Gas Industry and the academia with a view to providing lasting solutions to some of the challenges bedeviling the industry today.

Oando Plc to boost crude output in 2019 after curbing debt

Oando Plc to boost crude output in 2019 after curbing debt

Oando Plc to boost crude output in 2019 after curbing debt

Oando Plc is looking to boost crude output from next year as the Nigerian producer breaks the back of a $2.5 billion debt burden built up through the 2014 acquisition of oil and gas assets from U.S. giant ConocoPhillips reports WorldOil

The borrowings will be almost 90% lower by the third quarter of 2019 and the company is now preparing for its next stage of development, CEO Wale Tinubu said in an interview at Oando’s Lagos headquarters. “We have purchased enough reserves and our job should really be to exploit those reserves,” he said.

Oando focused on repaying the debt after the ConocoPhillips deal to cushion the impact of the financing costs, but that came at the expense of growth, according to the CEO. The company, listed in Johannesburg and Lagos, is now able to increase its number of rigs and reopen oil fields, he said, taking advantage of a recovery in the oil price.

Untapped reserves

Oando has more than 450 MMbbl of reserves following the ConocoPhillips acquisition and has interests in 14 oil exploration licenses in Africa’s biggest crude producer. Its Oando Energy Resources Inc. unit aims to grow production organically to 75,000 bpd by 2023 from 40,000 bbl, while also seeking “acquisition opportunities” which could help it exceed that goal, Tinubu said.

Besides repaying debt, the company sold parts of the business to focus on more profitable areas, according to the CEO. Disposals include a stake in a gas distribution and power unit to Helios for $115.8 million in 2016, while Oando gave up its majority stake in a service-station and fuel-storage and supply business.

Oando remains committed to its oil trading operation, he said. “We are focused on developing that side of our business, which is really to export Nigerian crude and bring in products wholesale.”

Tinubu also commented on a Nigerian government cap on gasoline prices at below-market costs that has caused many private retailers to stop imports. That’s left the state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. to handle supply and effectively subsidize fuel for Nigerians.

Cheap petrol

“It’s not popular to increase petrol prices,” the CEO said. “The reason we don’t have a country that is exporting petroleum products is because of subsidies. Our refineries were never repaired because they never had enough cash flow to fix them. That’s because they were always selling product at a discount.”

Nigeria restricts pump prices to 145 naira per litre ($0.40, or $1.51 per gallon). That makes the OPEC member one of the 10 cheapest places in the world to buy gasoline, according to GlobalPetrolPrices.com.

Tinubu and his deputy at Oando were last month dealt a court defeat as firms they own or part-own were ordered to pay $680 million in a dispute over corporate shareholdings. The CEO declined to comment as the case is ongoing.

The shares rose 1% to 5.05 naira as of 1 p.m. in Lagos, have declined 16 percent this year, valuing the company at 63 billion naira ($174 million).

Shell kick start clean-up in aghoro community in Bayelsa state

August 24, 2018 by Roselyn Nwachukwu

Shell kick start clean-up in aghoro community in Bayelsa state

According to a report filed by The Guardian the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), says it has recovered over 95 per cent of spilled oil from the recent spill incidents on sections of the Trans Ramos Pipeline (TRP) in Aghoro and Odimodi communities in Bayelsa and Delta states respeftively.

The pipeline, which has remained shut-in since the incidents, supplies crude to the SPDC Joint Venture-owned Forcados Oil Terminal in western Niger Delta for export.
In a statement, SPDC acknowledged the spills as very regrettable, adding that in line with its standard operating procedures, the TRP was shut down immediately the incidents were reported and the Oil Spill Response and the Emergency Response teams were activated to manage the incidents and prevent further spillage.

“As soon as clean-up and site assessment are completed, we are committed to starting the immediate remediation of the impacted areas in Aghoro and Odimodi,” SPDC said in a statement.

According to Shell, details of the cause and impact of the spills will be captured in the Joint Investigation Visits (JIV) reports, which will be released after sign-off by all parties.

“The JIV is a multi-party exercise involving the regulators, the community, representatives of the state government, security agencies, and representatives of SPDC. The outcome is then signed off by the stakeholders to authenticate the findings,” the oil company said. However, commenting on the development, Spokesman for Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth, Nigeria, Philip Jakpor, said the claims of SPDC must be reconfirmed by an independent body before they (the claims) could be validated.

Jakpor told The Guardian in a telephone chat on Sunday, that: “What I can tell you is that it is not the duty of SPDC to tell us it has progressed in a clean-up; it is the affected communities that should be saying so.“Certainly, an independent body should come up with a report in that respect. The announcement should be the work of the independent body, and not Shell.

“It is also the responsibility of government to tell us that. If we have not heard from government, we don’t believe.”Meanwhile, the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), said it had adopted a new technology to tackle the menace of oil spillage in Nigeria.

The technology, according to the Agency, would assist in rapid response to oil spill and prevent further degradation of the environment. The Minister of Environment, Aisha Mohammed, had also said the use of oil spill modelling techniques in predicting the direction of spilled oil in the marine environment was quite a laudable innovation. She described it as a tool, which presents a very valuable opportunity for both oil spill preparedness and response activities.
